VholdR Desktop – “a whole new experience”

Monday, June 16, 2008 - 11:59am
Drum roll please…..the next version of VholdR Desktop is now launching! The team has been drinking plenty of Mountain Dew and spending their weekends to bring you a new version of VholdR Desktop. Our job isn’t done yet, until we have a Mac and PC solution that makes video sharing easy, but we’re significantly closer with this next version of VholdR Desktop. Here are all the great new features and improvements we have made!

New Features

  • Progress Bar with a Queue: now when you upload or download multiple videos there is a queue that shows you the progress of each video and gives you a complete or failed notice so you know what happened.
  • Folder Tree: we now have an easy to use folder tree so you can add and delete video folders
  • File Size and Time: under the thumbnail of each clip you will now see the file size and the length of the video. Therefore you know how big the clip is before you share it to VholdR.com
  • Location Metadata: the location metadata field now matches the Map It functionality on VholdR.com
  • Share Icon: any shared videos to VholdR.com will now have a small icon so you can remember what you have and haven’t shared
Improvements

  • Installer: we have a single installer now that installs all the Xvid code and .NET in a single shot. Woohoo!
  • Progress Bar: you can see we’re quite excited with how this experience has improved
  • Folder Speed: we have ramped up the folder response time, which should make VholdR Desktop much faster
  • Drag and Drop: yep, now you can drag and drop video files between folders
  • Selecting: selecting videos is much more consistent
  • A Drive: no more checking of your A Drive (some of you know what we’re talking about here)
What’s Next: We’re not even close to being done yet. We’ll be launching a “pretty” version of VholdR Desktop in the coming weeks that matches the great functionality with a bit of style. We’ll keep you posted on our progress.

VholdR hosts Seattle Lunch 2.0

Monday, June 16, 2008 - 11:49am
Seattle Lunch 2.0 came to the VholdR office last week to connect Seattlites looking for cool companies and VholdR. We put our funniest team members to the test, Drew (DholdR) and Nate (NholdR), to explain how far action video has come. Nate introduced us to Octopod, which is the latest in helmet camera innovation, including a helmet, camcorder, external microphone, plenty of wires, and more duct tape than you can imagine.

We had a great time cramming 70 people into our offices. Thank you everyone who attended and here is a link with a short video clip.

Review: The New York Times - Physical Culture | Gear Test, Helmet-Mounted Video Cameras

Wednesday, May 28, 2008 - 4:38pm

THE boldest of adventure-sports mavens are the most enthusiastic consumers of a new generation of helmet-mounted video cameras — once prohibitively expensive, or clunky, or both — because they free the wearer’s hands for maneuvers like pulling a parachute cord or steering a bike or kayak out of harm’s way. Review: Laptop Magazine - Hands on (and off) with the VholdR Helmet Cam

Wednesday, May 28, 2008 - 4:34pm
Ever since I had a digital camera that could record video, I’ve been trying to devise ways to use it to film myself skiing from a first-person perspective. It usually involved me holding the camera in front as I picked my way down a mountain, careful not to drop anything. Fortunately, there’s some great new hands-free options, and this past weekend, I got to test one of them out, the VholdR helmetcam from Seattle-based Twenty20, on the slopes of Heavenly in South Lake Tahoe, California. Review: Newsweek - Headed for trouble

Wednesday, May 28, 2008 - 4:31pm

Helmet cams are the latest must-have gizmo for adrenaline junkies, who post their exploits online or e-mail clips to friends. They mount to headwear, handlebars, surfboard or kayak, leaving hands free for rip cords or ski poles. Full review at: http://www.newsweek.com/id/117...

Review: Electronic Bloggers.com - VholdR Camera

Wednesday, May 28, 2008 - 4:28pm
This isn’t the ultimate camcorder for extreme sporting. This is a wearable portable camcorder that can attach to almost anything. It comes with a mounting kit that the camcorder can slide in and out of fairly easy without having to use the traditional method of duct taping it in place. You can attach it to your helmet, snowboard, handlebars, bumper of your car or were ever you need to put it. Full review at: http://www.electronicbloggers.com/

Review: Ride Strong - All-in-one video camera

Review: Coolest Gadgets - VholdR small is the new big

Wednesday, May 28, 2008 - 4:20pm
It appears that in the world of video cameras, small is the new big. I suppose we all want our cameras to be smaller, and this VholdR camera may be one of the smallest out there. See full review at: http://www.coolest-gadgets.com/20071106/vholdr-the-big-little-camera/#co...
