How long should a video take to be posted?

wtbthree

So my other vids are about 20 Megs and usually are posted and playable on the site about 20 mins after i finish uploading. I posted a video that is 120 Mb last week and it still isnt viewable. Should that size of a file take so long?? to be expected? or should I try again?

This is a great question. If you post a large file, the longest (and I mean longest) it should take is a couple of hours, let's say four max. Most videos will push through in a matter of minutes. If you have a video that is outside of that range, such as the one you've mentioned, then the best thing to do is message me with a link to that video and I can go take a look and see what happened.

Shoot me that link over and I'll take a look right away.

For everyone else who reads this. wtbthree and I were able to solve his issue together. We removed the video he linked here and another copy of it popped through. Again, if you have a video that looks stuck, please send me a message and I'll look into it with you.

Thanks,

Nate

Is there a file size limit? I have a 14 min. vid that doesn't appear to go through. I've deleted it for now.

You can have a maximum individual file size of 300MB per upload and a maximum storage capacity of 100GB for registered users.

Nate, I've got one that's been processing for like 12 hours now. Never had problems before.
Uploaded with Easy Edit. The file is 294MB

Hey Bean,

I took a look on the back-end, and it looks like the entire file never made it, 280 out of 294MB. Try pulling it down and reposting.

I've uploaded it twice already but something I didn't think about is the filesize being displayed in Windows as 293,400 KB (not MB). I was thinking it was under 300MB but the conversion isn't ten-base.

The file is actually 300,440,774 bytes. Which is over the limit allowed by the server. So it's probably just being cut off (as it should).

I'm just posting this in case anyone else gets confused in the same way.

I'll re-encode the file slightly smaller. Assume it worked if i don't reply to this...

Well, got it under 300MB, reuploaded. First try failed. Clicked retry, went through. But well after an hour I've still got no love on the site.

One of these is the failed one, one's the "good" one. Not sure which is which:

I don't know what else to do.

I've tried 4-5 videos all under 300Mb and none of them have worked. These are edited with music etc so maybe I've got the wrong settings outputting the files. I save them as MOV files at the native ContourHD resolution 1280x720. Any suggestions for edit file output settings? I've let files run for days and nothing happens...but just the edited files?

Something that worked for me, although it's time consuming,

Put the file in Easy Edit, click Clip, but don't actually remove anything. Then click Finish. This will cause Easy Edit to re-encode the file which will guarantee it'll be compatible with the website.
This may cause some loss of quality but it's a solid last resort when all else fails.

Thank go to Drew and co for this tip :)

Hey Glen,

I can take a look at what we're getting on this side I just need you to send me a link to the video that is still processing. I need the node ID, which can be found on the link information if you roll over the email button on the video page.

Once you have this number(s) send it over to me in a direct message on the site and I'll look on our back end and find out what's tripping you up.

Also, Bean's comment is a very solid alternate.

Thanks,
Nate

I'm having problems once again:
http://www.vholdr.com/video/di...

I've tried mov (multiple times using different audio formats), I've tried letting Easy Edit re-encode, the link above is WMV.

Mov had no sound once uploaded,
Easy Edit degraded the quality too much (not Easy Edit's fault, it's just bad to compress something multiple times),
and the WMV has been processing for hours.

I've been trying to get this video on the site for two days now.
It's also a Top5 Downhill submission. I'll have to send Drew a youtube link at this rate :(

Wow, seems to have actually gone through during the night. Some minor choppiness but I think that may be the fault of using WMV.

Here's the youtube version for comparison:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

YouTube accepted the mp4 straight out of Sony Vegas. If vholdr.com could do that it would save me and others much frustration.

All of the videos I have tried to upload have been fairly small and they don't appear to be going through either.

staudacher,

Are you using the software? If not I'd reccomend that. If your videos aren't making it, send me a link via private message and I'll take a look on my end.

Thanks,
Nate

Well, when I just used "upload" they went fine. When using the "share" function it never worked.

I just put up 8 more vids using the share function. I'll wait awhile and see if they get posted.

ok...I posted 8 videos using the "share" function and 1 hour later I changed the name of one video and uploaded it using the upload function. The one using the upload function posted in less than 20min. http://vholdr.com/node/41123

Here is the same video posted almost an hour earlier using the share function and it is still processing. http://vholdr.com/node/41109

Very strange. It looks like you deleted 41109 already, can we take this out of the forums so I can work with you directly? Try another share and then send me the link via private message on the site.

Thanks,
Nate

Hi rompn8,

Hmm... Looks like the file never made it to us. Why don't you try deleting that video and re-posting it. Are you using the software or the website?

Thanks,
Nate
