Yep, just got mine today. Did a short video at home and picture quality does not look any different than from my Contour HD. I still need to take the time and shoot from the different formats. We'll see. Doesn't really matter since I was thinking about getting another one anyway for my wife's helmet. If you got yours how do you like it?

Where you will really see the difference is going to be at 960P and at 60FPS. Everything will seem much more fluid, and you will be able to take a frame from the video with it being sharper.

Adjusting the Exposure will really be nice for certain conditions, like if you have the camera in the car and outside is over exposed.

I need to start making some rigs for ice racing!!!

Got mine yesterday, but haven't got a chance to try it yet. Going hunting this weekend so it will be a day or two until I get it rolling.

My dying old video card has trouble keeping up with the full resolution. The picture quality is incredible though! Very sharp! The display barely fits on my monitor's screen which is 1920x1200. This thing is certainly overkill for most people. You need a good computer with a good video card and a good monitor to benefit from what this camera is capable of.

I'll start posting vids when I get an upgrade or two for my PC.

ive done a short test in my car and the qualty is amazing, the full image is bigger than both my 15" monitors together (must invest in better ones!) you will defo need class 6 cards with this one, the full 1080 image is pulling 8400+kbps!!
the only challenge so far is that sony vegas wont reconize the audio, i found the only way to get the audio is to convert the video to a wmv file with AVS converter so you dont lose the quality in image.

good times ahead ;-)

We can't rename the extension to mp4 like before?

davidwhitefield

nope! tried all of that already and no luck :-( the only way i found that imported the audio synced and the footage not affected was to do the wmv conversion first, and then import it . as a note this makes it a bit of a balls ache as the file i converted was six minutes long and it took nearly an hour for my pc to convert it, im lucky thatt i rarely use the original audio but i think those that do will get a bit fed up of this rigmarole.

I'll do some experimenting. I'm sure something like Super or Quicktime player can direct stream the audio out of the MOV and put it in an mp3 or something.
You'd have to sync the audio with the video in Vegas. Since I've been using multiple cameras that's a regular task for me already anyway.

On that note, I've now got 3 cameras (1 of each generation) woo! I can have front, rear and helmet views :D

Well I just renamed a file to mp4 and dropped it into Vegas without any problems.
Are you sure you've got your project setup correctly?

I'm using the following:

1920x1080 29.97fps video
48khz 16-bit stereo audio

Notes:
The Bluray setting in Vegas is Interlaced, don't use that, make a custom setup for progressive.
Even though the cam is mono I don't believe the ACC codec supports it so you've got to use stereo or better.

hmmmm...curious!!! exact same set up. isnt it wonderful how software seems to do its own thing on different machines ;-D
ive got all three gens of camera as well, thats one reason i got AVS so i can convert the old vholdr avi files to other stuff so all three sets of footage are singing from the same song book. when im able ill sit down and work this one out with a pencil, just like the constipated professor ;-)

most PC's cannot and will not edit 1080P smoothly, i know my 1080p canon 5dm2 files are huge and my PC just craps. I use a mac to edit video from now on (wayyyy nicer!!)
For web I would transcode to 720p using SUPER convertor, and edit that.

If you plan on using it locally, 720P is still a very good resolution!

1080p is more for the techy crowd. see what you can use. If you want to edit 1080p and do blu-ray video & HD all the time, a mac is going to be the way for you, it just makes sense!

are you using a class 6 card? as these puppies write hell of a lot of info. im finding 8400+kbps!! i dont think anything less will keep up on full HD mode. but im sure someone will prove me wrong ;-)

I formatted the card, but all my test videos are jumpy (Like it skips a frame ever so many seconds). I'll take it to work and see if I can duplicate it there to rule out my PC.
Windows 7, 4 GB, Quad Q6600 2.4, Nvidia 8800GT 512MB

Work is the same except running Vista.

My ContourHD does not do this, maybe I need to try 720 mode and see if that makes a difference

Charlie,

Didn't see this post, those are pretty good specs. From what we've seen 720@60 is the hardest on your machine, followed by 1080. Try on of the other settings like 960 (which I love for the woods anyway) or regular 720@30 and below and see what you get.

If there was a problem with the camera or the write speed of the card the stuttering would show up online as well, since I didn't see anything my guess is the machine.

Also, are you playing the videos from the Easy Edit software or through Quicktime. If not the latter, give that a try as well.

Thanks,

Yeah looks smooth there. Have you updated your video drivers?
If what you have isn't version 190-something you may see a jump in performance by updating.
...oh, apparently they're at 191 now.

Got mine last week, took it to a race Sunday http://www.vholdr.com/video/se...
Nothing like breaking in a new camera by knocking it on a tree in the first mile! The clarity is great but Easy Edit completely freaks out. For vids bound for the web I think I'll stick with the normal 720p 30fps. Anyone try the 720 60fps?

run the footage thro quicktime, it will play better , the company is working on a different set up for easyedit so it will handle the quality. ive tried the 60fps check out http://vholdr.com/node/49787 . i edited it with vegas as it handles the footage ok ;-)

Yeah it plays fine in QT, Media Player, etc... Just Easy Edit barfs. No biggie as I usually use an editor to clip and edit. Was just posting something quick to see how the site handle the 1080p.
Nice work on the 60fps vid!

I did a review of the 1080 - abstract http://pointofviewcameras.ca/b....

Got to say that I agree that 1080p video is demanding on the old PC and that Mac users - I envy you!

Here's the video - vimeo downsizes to 720p size but you can download the video from the link

http://www.vimeo.com/7302930
------------------------------

SUMMARY

The ContourHD 1080P will be $ 55 Cad/ $ 50 USD more expensive then it’s cousin the ContourHD (for the sake of clarity I’ll call the earlier model the ContourHD 720). Both units are available for sale. Vholdr is not obsoleting the 720p just offering customers a choice between a grab and go unit (720p) and a higher end, more customizable camera with user adjustable settings like contrast, sound recording and exposure at a higher resolution.

At $ 363 Cad ($330 USD) vs $ 308 (280 USD) the Contour HD 1080p will be worth it if you have: (i) a pretty fast computer and (ii) want to view your videos on a 1080p HD viewable computer or TV. NOTE that I have yet to investigate the ability of the ContourHD 1080 to be configured by software so reserve the right to alter my opinion if the ContourHD 1080’s performance can indeed be tweaked by software.

In reading this opinion, keep in mind my previous opinion that the ContourHD 720’s video output was already very good for a POV camera. The ContourHD 1080p is an incremental improvement that, for my purposes, is probably not worth an upgrade. Think of the ContourHD 720’s video performance as a Porsche. The ContourHD 1080P is a Porsche Turbo. But the roads I drive on (substitute bandwidth for roads) are pretty rudimentary and I could never harness the power, performance and handling of a Porsche Turbo.

Perhaps you can, you with your new iMac, and your premium high-speed internet connection, or your new 1080P HDTV in which case the ContourHD 1080p is the tool for you.

NOTE you have to download the file to get the full 1080p video as Vimeo downsizes to 720p

Whats all this must have an iMac.. I got a pc, and with prices of Processors lately. (I bought a
E6300 overclocked to 3.88Ghz) also bought new Mobo and Graphics card, cost bugger all and handles it fine. Actually cost less than $500 Aussie dollars. Can get way more powerful systems, but had a budget and handles 1080p just fine...
So all you non Mac guys, don't be put off...

Got mine.
Here's a quick test I did on it. Did change the settings.

The footage seems to wobble, is this normal?
