I made another mod on the ContourHD: keep the original mic inside the camera, and i added an external plug with a simple switch, so i can choose to use the internal mic, or another external mic when i use the camera with my bike. When i use the external mic, the internal is automatically disabled!
Is the switch inline on your external mic cord? Got photo's?

the switch is already inside the female plug connector! If i don't use the external mic the camera works with the internal mic. Just plug an external mic and the internal is automatically disabled! how can i put some photos?
It's called a switched jack... very common. Think of a radio/gps/mp3 player that cuts out the speakers when you plug in a headset.

As to buying...you'll have to do a parts search... you looking for a pcb type mount ( its in a shell)
