Purple Lines In Recording

bjb252r6

I'm getting some purple lines in the road occasionally when I'm recording while riding my motorcycle. Does anyone know what's causing this? I'll try and get a video it up in a bit.

its a flare , it happens when the sun hits the lense at the right angle (or wrong angle!) i am assuming that the lines are vertical and cross the whole screen though.

Yeah, it didn't seem like a flare to me. At least I've never seen one look like that. It looks a lot worse in the source video. I guess when it gets compressed for the web it knocks a little bit of it out.

I've got purple lines too. Verticle from top to bottom, at various places across the screen.

I talked to Brandon and he confirmed that they are indeed lens flares. I'm not sure why they look like that.

That's the stupidest idea I've ever heard. Let's do it.

Wow, yours are really bad. I wonder exactly what lighting situations cause this and if there's some way to add a filter to get rid of the flares.

Hey Guys,

You are correct, this is flare off of the lens cap. We just announced a lens kit with threads last week. That will be out soon and an IR cut filter will probably take care of this perfectly. I'm going to sticky this for future users.

Thanks all!

I have the same issue as well - how does one get the new lens kit and IR cut filter?

It hasn't been released yet. I'm sure we'll do an announcement when it's out so hang tight.

perfect. my new lens i got is tougher but no matter how many times i tried, that screw on cap will not allow the tiny screw to be threaded in. i have duct taped it for now.
i spent no less than 5 hours trying to get the holes to line up. They won't.

Having the same issue and the magenta line is almost in every shot. dozens of times in a ten minute ride. Totally not good and I had none in my previous camera and that 27 minute video was taken in similar lighting conditions, so please NATE, put me on the list for a fix kit or replacement (currently I have two brand new ContourHD Cameras so I'd guess I will need two lens kits. I also just left you or Brandon or Tech a VM about my back door fell out and needs to be fixed. Can you contact me please, Thanks
Steve

I've seen some cams have more trouble with this "flare" problem than others. I had 2 cams side by side and the newer one had magenta lines and the older didn't....
If I was to guess, Its either a change in the lens cover coating and/or the sensitivity of the cmos chip for the cam... but my latest cam doesn't have much trouble with this 'flare'

Hello,

Add me to the "purple vertical line" issue. If you need yet another example, take a look for yourself here (at 00:19):
