This is actually a place holder. HD footage drops straight in, and exporting is the done using Quicktime. I'll fill this out in detail a bit later but for now I want to point out one thing we've learned.
When exporting as a Quicktime conversion, there is a setting under options called "prepare for internet streaming." It's ok to have this checked, but in the drop down dialog make sure to use "fast start."
DO NOT USE: "fast start - compressed header"
This will fail when you post it to the site.
That's all for now, stay tuned...

Nate,
What is the best export method for FCP? I've got a 10min vid, and when I export from FCP via Quicktime conversion, H.264 comp, high quality, size 720p etc, I get a 1.4GB file. If I reduce the quality to medium or small, the video gets very blocky, pixelated. It takes a half to full hour to render and I've tried three or four different outputs with not encouraging results. I haven't tried the fast start or "prepare for internet streaming". Will that help reduce size without degrading quality too much?
Thanks.
Mark
I'm having some problems editing my footage in final cut pro 6. Hope you can help me out.
It always has to render audio and basic transitions such as fades, ect..
plus, clip to clip edits are super clunky with the frame freezing for a second before evening out. Can't be my machine. I've got a quad-core tower i edit hd on all the time. Think it's in my sequence settings, but i had the sequence match footage and the problems still persist.
thanks, eshom

This isn't 100% test to be the most efficient, but here's what we use.
res: 1280x720
type: mov
codec: H.264
fps: 30
keyframes: Auto
Quality: High
Encoding: multi-pass
Data Rate: restrict to 2500kbps
Give that a try and let me know what you come up with.

Thanks Nate. Yes, the file is much more manageable. It came out to 365MB which is a 1/3 of my lowest of all the previous attempts. The quality is not as good of course, but decent. Still too big to post to the VHoldr site, so I'll have to post to Youtube. I have an issue with vignetting on the left side field of view that I want to show you. Its not normal, so might be another RMA/support issue. Sigh.
Thanks again for the tips Nate.

Mark,
You can post that through the Easy Edit software.

I like:
5000 kbps
30 keyframes (Not 30 fps, 30 KEYFRAMES)
Single Pass
H.264
My videos on YouTube are SO hig res, the High Def option adds virtually nothing.
Another tidbit to add, when you import in SD you'll have to do a quicktime conversion first. Here's the specs for the conversion:
Out of QT pro:
Export; Movie to QuickTime Movie
Size: Current
Settings:
Compression Type: MPEG-4 Video
Frame Rate: 59.94
Key Frames: auto
Data Rate: auto
Quality: Best
The key step is the 59.94 frame rate. Oddly enough, I've found that if you use "current" which is the same, it won't import, so make sure to select 59.94
