Having read through several discussions on mounts, and looking at the nearly 5/8" standoff provided by the helmet mount, I am looking for something with a much lower profile.
First - having that weight hanging off the side of my helmet has proven (initially at least) uncomfortable.
Second, for me to use it in a military free-fall or static line jump, it will stick out too far - even with a lot of duct-tape (riser and static-line grab concerns).
Any suggestions?
I am on the verge of hacking up the existing helmet mount and epoxying the portion that locks the camera in place directly to my helmet.

I have posted a video for mounting the camera under the visor of a MX helmet if it can give you any ideas. Have you thought of making a mount that would attach to the front of your helmet using something like the night vision mount on the helmets or making a mount in a T configuration that uses the same bolt patern as the existing helmet mounts and mounting the existing vold mount to the T platform you have just created with drilling holes and zipties or some actual hardware.
I skipped the mounts all together. I use a "velcro-ish" mount. This is what I had for my old helmet cam and it seems to work great with the Contour as well.
I use "Scotch Dual Lock" like sold here...

But you can get it anywhere.
I put some on the camera over the rails and some on my helmet and I'm good to go. Holds strong to well over 100 MPH with no problem.
