VholdR Miscellaneous. [F.A.Q.]

NholdR

[UPDATED 05.15.08]

If you can’t find your question anywhere else I hope you can find it here. If you can’t find it here post a comment or send me an email.

.

It looks like I can spin the mount. Can it move?

Yes. Yes it can. Drew and I hope to make a video about that soon, but I can give you the basic rundown here and now. The mount assembly is two pieces which can come apart to allow you to adjust the vertical tilt of the camera.

.

The easiest way is to slide your VholdR onto the mount and pry them apart. There is industrial grade velcro holding the two together so it make take a little pressure. To put back together just rotate to the desired angle and press back into place.

.

[On a side note, it’s a good idea to have your camera tether attached as well.]

.

What is the maximum size video I can upload to the website?

Currently the maximum video size is 100MB, which translates into roughly 10 minutes of footage.

.

When will additional mounts be available?

We’re still working on finalizing the new mounts, but we hope that they’ll be available within the coming months. Rest assured we will announce their release once we have a solid date.

.

The progress bar in the desktop software is acting weird. Is that supposed to happen?

Nope. We are constantly upgrading and working to improve the software. If you encounter problems or errors please be sure to report them using the integrated error reporting.

.

I can’t register. How can I get help with that?

There have been some users who can’t get the registration working. If that’s you please send me an email containing: you name, camera serial number, email address, the user name you tried to register, and date you attempted the registration.

.

How does the VholdR compare to cameras like the VIO POV1 and the Oregon Scientific ATC2K?

In comparison to the VIO, they use a different processor and despite the camera and separate recorder configuration the video is quite comparable. The ATC2K has a much lower bit rate and frame speed so it makes the video look much bumpier and a little choppy. Hope that helps.

.

Is there an estimated release date for Max software?

We're working on a Mac uploader and the tentative date is in the fall. We have a bit more work on the PC version and part of the team is now starting on the Mac version.

.

Are you guys working on the wind noise issue?

We were working on digitally controlling the microphone, but we're going to have to turn the gain down a touch on the new units, but don't yet have a solution on the current owners. It was originally tuned to also allow voice levels, but the wind seems to be a lot stronger when riding on something. At the speed we all travel though it can be like sticking your head out a window of a car, which is sometimes hard to hear. Ideally we would like to make the gain level controllable depending on the type of sport.

.

Does anyone have any knowledge/experience on how waterproof/splashproof the VholdR has tended to be? And any hints on ways to improve the waterproofing?

The VholdR is splash proof but not waterproof, meaning while it can get wet it should not be submerged. Maybe someone will have a DIY solution to offer, but right now the best suggestion might be to look at some of the waterproof box companies like Otterbox to see if they have anything that could adapt to the VholdR.

.

Will there be any future support of SDHC cards?

This area is still grey because we don't just want to unlock the card size, we wnat to make sure the encoder doesn't struggle to write to the larger card type. This could (read: currently does) cause quality issues with the video and we're going to have to resolve them first before we go forward.

.

I have a bad CD. Can I download the required software from someplace?

There are two parts to the installation. The first is to install FFDshow, a package that contains the codecs necessary to view the video. You can download that here:

http://download.vholdr.com/cli...

After installing FFDshow you will need to install the VholdR Desktop software. You can download that here:

http://download.vholdr.com/cli...

.

I uploaded a clip but it's not viewable. Why?

Once you upload a video it can take us 15 to 30 minutes until the video completes processing and is viewable on the site. If you see the skier, it can also mean that the video is processing.

.

How do I get my MicroSD card out?

First check to make sure it's in the right slot and not stuck between the holder and the case (holding the camera vertically there is gap to the left of the actual SD slot). If it's in the correct slot it is spring loaded so if you push the card down with your fingernail you should hear a small click and then it will just pop right out.

.

The desktop software keeps checking my floppy drive, how can I get it to stop?

While we're not sure exactly what is causing this we do have a workaround: You can go into your Device Manager and disable the floppy drive, which shouuld fix the issue.

.

How much lens flare and blown highlights are normal?

With cameras and fast changing lighting conditions you can get some occasional flare, but you shouldn't see it very often. If you are doing a lot of riding through trees it can be some of the more difficult conditions because the lighting chages so often from sun to shade.

.

If you can’t find an answer post a comment or send me an email. I’m always updating and keen on building a great knowledge base for old and new users.
