I just got my VholdR and was playing with the (limited) mounting opitons. I have an older halogen Nite Rider light for mtn biking that came with a velcro helmet mount. Like all Nite Rider mounts, it has a rounded hard plastic piece that the light attaches to, which allows you to tilt the light depending on desired angle.
[My helmet mount is actually slightly different than this one - mine has a single, longer velcro strap (isntead of two) that wraps around the anchor (helment vent, whatever...) and to the other side of the plastic mount.]
The attachment piece is held onto the base with two small screws from the bottom - so it can be taken off. When taken off, the hard plastic base is left which, is actually slightly curved as well. I stuck the VholdR mount onto the hard plastic base and it actually makes pretty good contact with the based, I'd say about 90% of the surface area of the VholdR mount sticks to the base. And the curvature of the Nite Rider base seems the match up pretty well with that of the VholdR base. I haven't ridden with it yet but it seems pretty solid.
I'm sure the double strap mount could be converted to a single strap velcro just buy picking up a longer replacement strap. With a singel strap on the mount pictured above you would actually have even more surface area for the VholdR base to contact the mount base. The cool thing about the single strap design is that you can quickly take it on and off a mtn bike helmet and it seems like it could attached to several other things like the mouth gaurd on a full face helment or possibly a goggle strap. I would be willing to bet the Nite Rider universal handle bar mount could work the same way. The handle bar mount may need some reinforcements to keep the VholdR base attached - not sure the adhesive alone would do it.
Anyways, I'll follow up once I've ridden with it...

Thanks for the great post! I'll take a look at this.
