Protective Lens Covers, Full Details with pics.

ramjet308

I know someone here already mentioned it so I can’t take credit for the idea. I will however expand on it.

It was recommended to use a butler creek flip up scope lens cover. I just went out and picked a few up that fit. Below is what I came up with.

You have three options.

#01 eyepice (#20010) 1.341" This is the one that has the red lever.
#02 Blizzard (#70202) 1.3"-1.39" This is the see through one.
#03 Objective (#30035) 1.34" This one is the regular front lens cover.

All three work. The blizzard model goes on tight and even though it is "see through" your field of view would be greatly reduced and probably lose some quality recording thru a plastic lens. Over all it works great for protection when the Vholdr is not in use.

NOTE: Keep in mind, this cover will cause a bit of Vignetting in Wide angle.

What seems to be the best is the #01 Eyepiece. It fits all the way on snug. Now the scope cover is longer than the rotating ring of the lens but don’t worry the lens can still spin even with the little bit of extra resistance. I notice in the standard upright position the lens has a bit of wiggle to it. With this scope covers it gets rid of that wiggle. Here are a few pics of the #01 eyepiece flip up cover. I personally think the the 01 Eyepiece is the best option.

I discovered that a 35mm film canister lid makes the perfect lens cap for the camera. You need the black type canister with the grey lid - you slice out the inner rim on the inside of the lid and it fits the Contour perfectly.

Pics can be viewed here (although you likely need to register to see the pics):

Use 2 Blizzard see thru's - size 2 and 4 - cut the lens off the 2 and slide the sleeve on the camera - then slide the size 4 over that- you have total field of view - and the picture give a perfectly clear video.
