RAD Video Tools

Tred

Does anyone use the RAD Video Tools to convert your .MOV files into .AVI?

I'm having some weird issues.

I've got some files that I simply cannot successfully convert. After conversion, I try to open the .AVI file, and windows media says "the file cannot be played." Windows Movie Maker cannot open it either.

Then, I noticed that the RAD Video Tools' "File info" reports incorrect (usually "0 minutes 1 seconds") film length, and often incorrect FPS.

Also, it does this thing where the video in the converted .AVI file plays frame by frame in slow motion while the audio is real time.

This happens consistently to only select files, but to both large and small files.

Is there a better .MOV to .AVI convertor?

I'm sitting here thinking, and another variable is that I've used two methods for transfering the files to the computer, one by connecting the USB cable to the camera, and another by using a card reader. I'm going to experiment this in a little bit.

your other option is to look into a better video editing software, my preference is sony vegas.

Are you saying I should look into video editing software that opens .MOV without converting to .AVI first?

I'm trying clipping a 1.42GB file into a smaller chunk using Easy Edit, and what do you know. Easy Edit can't clip it. It's stuck at 0% progress. Too big? Corrupt file?

yes, as the contour uses mov ,converting to avi you do lose some of the quality, so editing with a programme the handles mov and the h264 codec that the files are written in, you wont loose out on the quality of your videos.

Much thanks in all the threads you've replied, David!! As soon as I fix the vibration problem, and when I'm ready to edit some music in, I'm going to try the Sony Vegas!
