I liked my VholdR so much that I recently picked up a ContourHD. Both units are plagued with wind noise... I haven't compared, but the CHD seems to pick up the wind noise less. After reading countless articles in this forum about the mic, could it be that the mic is simply picking up the wind noise from the unit itself? Rounding out the front facet directly beneath the camera may cure the wind noise issues. Maybe some neutrally round shape that joins flush with the three edges of the unit lower unit. Something formed from blue foam w/bondo and some 100mph tape (duct tape) to secure it to the unit... or maybe the right sized super ball.
I also read a thread regarding the wind noises translating to the mic from the unit casing. Sounds valid. A solution for that could be neoprene tape (or sound deadening material like dynamat) around the aluminum camera casing. Basically, deadening the wind vibrations on the unit...
Anyway, I thought I'd run the ideas by some of the more experienced dabblers on this forum for a sanity check.

yeah youve hit the nail on the head with this one. ive experimented with various ideas and so far had mixed results. ive even made a one peice enclosure out of closed cell foam and put a layer of open cell foam in the base so the mic can pic up sound, looked a bit swiss but did the job . i tend to put music over my vids now so its not much of an issue for me any more ;)
could you send a picture of your solution?
here you go :)

OK here is a comparison test I did with the before and after conversion.

I got the static noise I was complaining about almost completely gone by using better connectors and by encapsulating the mic itself so it can pick up sound from only the front.
Will upload a highspeed recording later, but I am happy with the conversion, so for me I am done with tinkering now all I have to do is make more movies ;)
