The dutch site www.sbe-performance.nl , where i bought my Vholdr last month, just published a new Vholder, a Vholdr HD, coming the 6 of may.
Since this is not mentioned yet on vholdr.com, is it really something new, or are they mistaking ?
Also curious if batteries, SD-cards ans mounts from the old version will fit on this HD-vholdr .....

Hmm interesting... HD in a vholdr would be groundbreaking for the industry!
Vholdrs use Micro SD cards, not SD Cards.
'micro SD is also an type of SD card ;) butindeed it uses microSD, and soon hopefully more than the 2 GB version (oficially) (i allready have 2 x 4gb microSD , next to 5 2GB microSD)
Buit how about that HD version ? or is it a "europe only" version ?
I can't see the point in HD if:
1. The depth of field is poor and there's no control over focus.
2. There is no optical image stabilisation. Post processing for HD would take ages.
3. The dynamic range is comparable to the current model. ie. masses of blown out highlights when filming on a sunny day.
I'm sure the HD version could use a full size SDHC card, you'll need a lot of storage.
As a professional Photographer the Vholdr Exhibits some pretty great qualities in its optics.
Aperture
the aperture will open to F1.2 which is for extreme low light conditions, F1.2 is a smaller DOF and will only be for low light, I do not know what the lowest aperture it will goto but im sure it is above F8 in decent light which is for a pretty broad DOF.
I have used this camera in a nightclub scenario and it worked flawlessly.
Light Sensitivity
Its Lux Factor (Rating for film cameras) is pretty low (good) at .04 It can almost capture video with a full moon out shining down. Pretty good if you ask me.
Image Stabilization
For stabilization, you can fake that by having static images in your video such as a visor, handlebar, dash, oar, etc. There are loads of software that will stabilize the image. And look at your audience, they expect movement in the camera for the activity being watched. Image Stabilization will take 1/4 to a 1/2 of your battery power alone, so you sacrifice quite a bit. Also you add weight of servo motors & the added sound (i hear my motors on my 5dmark 2 in my onboard mic)
Dynamic Range
As for the dynamic range & blown out/over exposed areas, you will get that with almost any film/video camera, Best thing to do is to have Neutral density filters over the lens so it stops down & is not over exposed in certain spots. However you will have underexposed areas. You can tweak your video using advanced editing software.
However for the most part you can usually only satisfy one end of the spectrum at a time. Plan ahead for where you ride & adjust accordingly.
The Future
In my Opinion, we have JUST seen the beginning of helmet cameras. Sony has just released the Sony HXR-MC1 an HD Helmet camera of 1080i. At a pricetag of over $1500USD. Its a hefty price to pay for 1080i helmet cam video. Once competition & the economy pick up We will see some new and insane technologies coming our way!
Contact lenses that stream directly to the internet anyone?
As a non professional photographer (so therefore I must know much less than you do, har har) all I can say is that the footage varies hugely and for the price tag the results are mixed. It's hardly sharp for VGA resolution, this isn't a cheap camera.

Someting is coming :D
A week ago you could pre order on that site ....
In the netherlands the dealer mentions that 27th of april he will know more ....
Too dumb for opera; too smart for NASCAR
Many vholdr owners actually placed orders for new ones as well. The waiting is hardest part. Ability to carry larger data cards and redesigned mic as well as HD have me waiting on the edge of my seat.
I ordered 3 myself.
I wont be the one to post the HD video pre-order guys got to see. But it was some of the best helmet cam I have seen!
Hopefully the specs will be posted soon for everyone else to see. They are pretty amazing :D
"oh oh, please sir can i have some more", whats this a HD version..... come on everyone chant "we want specs, we want specs, we want specs" and i dont mean specticals we make enough of that already. :o
lol im not spilling the beans, Bholdr & DholdR can do that for ya :D all i can say is, WOWx1000!
Oh ya, presale price was RETARDED!!!!
I ordered mine the day I got my email!!
Can't wait!!!!

Now, do it! Get it!
This news actually sucks since I have only had mine sh1tty VHoldR for about a month.
So if I spend another 300.00, how do I know it will function any better than the crap, I already purchased?
Will the audio work?
Will it still have the same lame tiny ON button.
Will the LEDs be seen in bright daylight?
I use mine on a Motorcycle and it would be nice to have a video camera that can turn on when needed without stopping to make sure it is on.
The LEDs are useless.
I am not very impressed with the current VHoldR.
They have a lot of work if they ever want me as a return customer.
Ten years ago my VHS camcorder mounted on a bike made better videos than my VHoldR.
There are some features that could be improved.
A main improvement would be the record switch shoud have three settings.
Switch position at the back of the camera - OFF
Switch in the middle of camera - ON
Switch slid to the front of the camera - Record
The current ON button needs to go away.
And a usable Red and Green LED need to be added to the top of the case instead of the back window that can not be seen in daylight.
I agree, but Disagree,
With my engine running (250cc 2 stroke race bike) I am able to hear the beeps to let me know the camera is recording.
I am able to see my LED's on a sunny day in the middle of a frozen lake.
Do not rely on the lights, rely on time recording. Know the time of day, time you started, and you will know when you will have no recording left (+/- 10min)
I would love to have the on/off record switch to be reversed, anything moving past the camera can/will turn it off.
See my Avatar?
That is where my camera is mounted.
Right below my left clip on.
There is NO POSSIBLE way to hear it beep.
There is absolutely no way to see any LED on the rear of the camera...
Please note: I am moving, usually at speed.
You and I have two different uses for the camera.
I want to know when my camera is on.
I could care less how long it stays on as long as it comes on and records when I want it to be on.
I only record twenty minutes at a time.
With a 2 GB card, I should be able to get 6-8 recordings...
I can't get one most of the time.
In response to some of your questions, the microphone has been improved which you will see from the sample videos, it is the same power button, the LED's are brighter, and the camera boots much faster.
Aside from that, if you are having some problems with your camera I would recommend sending an email to support@vholdr.com.
