My buddies Samsung HD tv could see the vholdr on the USB, and search it, however it did not see any files .

If you've found something that works well for your VholdR or ContourHD experience that we haven't thought of, feel free to share it with the class here.
NITE IZE sells Headbands for small flash lights to wear on your forehead.
The band works pretty good to wear your Contour HD on your fore head with the goggle mount.

I used one of my camping head flashlight and used the goggle adapter to film while I was upland game hunting. Will work on refining the headband by removing the flashlight.

To clarify, this post is intended for VholdR Videos only. It will not work for ContourHD videos.

After downloading Quicktrime Pro for $30. that runs the .mov perfectly, but can't save in the WMM format or w/o losing some of the quality, I downloaded Corel's Video Studio 12, Super, Vegas Movie Studio, and used their trial software. I either didn't like their interface or still had some problems. What I did find that could open the file perfectly, edit and save in numerous formats is a program called "Magix Movie Edit Pro 15" you can get a free trial. I like it and I ordered it from Amazon for $72.
What should I do to import movies from ContourHD into iMovie '09?
I tried to import the sample movies downloaded from your website and they work. But my movies won't import. I also tried to open in Quicktime and save as Quicktime independent movie, but nothing.
I have Quicktime Pro, and latest updates of iMovie and my MAC.
Thanks,
Marc.
Hi Marc,
Were these videos shot in SD or HD mode?

Two things:
1. Open a video with Quicktime, hit apple+i and give me the specs.
2. What does it say when you try to import it into iMovie?

When I select "Import movies..." a window appears saying "Optimizing movie" but it instantly goes away and nothing happens.
Hi Marc,
Ok, so I took a look and with iMovie 09 I was able to import and export videos fairly easily (write-up forthcoming).
When I ran the import I did File/import/Movies and then selected "full size" with the optimize video box checked.
I would try making a really small file to see if that imports first, then work bigger. Maybe your Mac can't handle the file size? If so you can clip it into chunks in the Easy Edit software.
Also, make sure you don't have any other programs (like Quicktime) viewing the file in the background.
Let me know if that helps.
Thanks,
Nate

I tried it on my computer and it didn't work.
But then I tried in another mac and it worked! So, It must be a problem with my installation, because the two computers have the same version of imovie 09.
Sorry for not trying it before posting, but apple programs normally don't fail like this! hehehe
thank you!
No problem, glad to see you've got it working. In the meantime I managed to write up an iMovie doc. I'll post it soon after I get it double checked for accuracy.

Has there been any progress with known software for Vista 64 bit to allow me to import edit and export with the VholdR sd camera, I am still unable to use or find any software that alows me to edit my videos. Any suggestions short of buying a pc with xp on it would be great.
Thanks

Fixdaily,
If you FFmpeg and make sure it's connected in the options on windows movie maker you should be able to import no problem.

Hi Gonriggen,
You will need the HD version of WMM which I believe only comes with certain flavors of Vista. Otherwise it will not work.
Thanks,
Nate

I successfully converted to .wmv with (free) Format Factory software & can now edit with WMM in XP Pro.

Hi everyone,
I am trying to import ContourHD files (.MOV) into my Final Cut Pro HD (4.5 version), but it says: "File Error: 1 file(s) reconginzed, 0 access denied, 1 unknown." Can anyone help pls??
Chris
HD. Do you think FCP version 4.5 can read it?
Hey ccostantini,
HD should go straight in with no problems, maybe there's something wrong with that particular movie. Try taking a small test clip and dropping it in.

None of this is helping. Does -anyone- know of software I can use to edit my ContourHD videos, that -won't- cause my computer to drag to a crawl? I did several regular HD movies recently, but when trying to use Adobe Premiere Elements on them, it performs -so- slowly I cannot actually complete any operations! The movies -play- on my computer fine, but trying to edit them is an exercise in patience! This is a -3ghz- Pentium 4 chip with a Geforce 9800 GT -overclocked- video card, I can't see how this isn't powerful enough to edit video!
I'd love to use Windows Movie Maker, but the Contour outputs in .MOV files, which Movie Maker says of course, is an invalid format when trying to open them!
Okay! Wow. Um.. _TOTALLY IGNORE THAT COMMENT!_ And, as a note to everyone: DO NOT USE ADOBE SOFTWARE, unless you have a VERY powerful computer, and likely are a professional studio! Why do I say this? Their 'elements' software, the 'dumbed down, consumer level' edition? It's just as power-hungry as the full software! No changes to my hardware settings.. Adobe software -almost doesn't work-. Even -playing- HD videos back that work on my computer otherwise is stuttery, choppy.. just downright bad.
I tried a competing software pack, Cyberlink Powerdirector. Booted several times faster, and video playback was at least -smooth- and workable. Sure it doesn't look perfect in the preview window, but I can see what is what, and it -works-! Sure there's probably other packages as well that work, but clearly ADOBE DOES NOT, if you have a weak computer! Weak apparently meaning anything more than a year old! Just a heads up!
you will find that most hd stuff will slow down your pc due to the amount of data the files produce. also you might find that as youve only got a single core chip that it will restrict it a little, if you upgrade to a dual core it will all run smoother still, im running a intel core duo E8400@3Ghz, its quite cheep to buy and the difference is realy noticable, just make sure your motherboard can take it, and you might as well up the ram if you do upgrade as its a relative quick and cheep upgrade :-)

Tagging Recipe
This is a post from the support page, that I'm reposting here in case there are any questions you'd all like to discuss.
We’re getting more and more great videos submitted to the site everyday, which is great, but all this footage can come at a price of making it harder to find just what you want to watch.

Cleaning "start record" slide

So I ride a dirt bike out at Glamis where there is a ton of sand and the slide to start and stop recording has sand under it and is getting harder to slide. Any way to take it off a clean under it?
if you can weild a screw driver you can clean it, but be warned the screws are very small and easy to lose best to do this on a table with a sheet of white paper under so you can see them if you do drop one. first turn the lens anti clockwise then unscrew the retaining screw, and put safely to one side, now unscrew the lens cover (when this is off make sure you dont touch the actual lens) , at the rear of the aluminium housing you will find two screws, remove these two and put safe. you can now slide the housing forwards and get access to the switch and clean it. refitting is a reverse of removal, be careful with the replacing of the screws and dont over tighten as they can pull out the plastic. when refitting the lens cover it can be a pain lining the hole in the cover and the hole in the threads so take your time.
if you do screw it all up the company may not honour the warrenty, so be careful. ;-)

Pelican Case?

Has anyone found a pelican type waterproof case for the HD? Something that can carry the camera, a battery, and some cards.
ive got two peli 1200 cases for that job, one holds all the different mounts and assorted 'helpers' and the other ive made an insert to hold two cameras,18 card/battery slots,a mobile phone and charger (for charging batteries),a usb card adaptor and a small usb cable, you may notice that there is still room for a third camera lying down!! both cases were bought from ebay brand new (although one is an older model) and were apx £20 each. here are some pics to help out ....

just tried pluging the contour into my sons xbox360 and it will play .mov files straight off the camera without any probs, you dont have to convert to mp4, although i renamed a file to mp4 and it updated the software and played that as well, and it charges it.. BONUS! :)
Tried to read the videos with my archos, which is connected to my TV, but the video's too big for my archos' resolution, even if I record in SD :)
*Archos that can read SD-cards btw
Will try it with my PS3 and LG LCD.
Will post results ;)
